Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! No need to panic about what to get for that special someone though because I’ve done the hard work for you. I went outside the box and came up with a few gift ideas that are not only fun, but that take advantage of some of our area’s best assets. Now there’s nothing wrong with traditional Valentine’s Day gifts- I still love getting pretty flowers and candy! I even low key love the borderline cheesy gifts..like this picture frame I made for our first Valentine’s Day together.
But if you’re looking for a more unique gift, then check out my list below. I love gifts that double as experiences so you’ll find a couple of these ideas are not material things but activities you can do with your significant other. Be sure to share some other cool Valentine’s gifts with me in the comments!
- Concert tickets:
We’re pretty lucky to live so close to one of the coolest outdoor music venues in the country. The Gorge Ampitheatre is just a short 40 minute drive from Moses Lake which makes it really convenient for catching a concert or two there during the summer. The Gorge hosts annual festivals like Sasquatch, Paradiso and Watershed as well as a few standalone concerts each year. No matter what your musical taste is, you’ll be able to find a concert or festival you’d enjoy. Check out their 2017 schedule here. And don’t worry if tickets for the concert you want to go to aren’t available yet, just make a cute IOU card with the details inside and you’re good to go!
2. Beer Growlers:
Growlers are a great way to enjoy craft beers at home. Plus, they’re pretty fun to collect. Moses Lake is home to two great breweries- Ten Pin Brewing Co. and St. Brigid’s Brewery. Between the two you should have no problem finding a beer he (or she) will love. I personally like the Grapefruit Explosion and TKO Amber Ale from St. Brigid’s and the Groove Pineapple Wheat and Snake Eye Stout from Ten Pin. If you’re just not sure what beer your loved one would want, pair an empty growler with a gift certificate so they can choose one themselves.
If your significant other is a fan of modern art, consider gifting them with a one of a kind print. The Moses Lake Museum and Art Center hosts new exhibits every couple of months and you can buy featured pieces from each show directly from the museum. The museum does a great job of showcasing local talent. I’ve been to a number of exhibits and I’ve come across a few pieces I would love to have in my home. Prices do vary, depending on the size of the pieces, but staff can help you find something within your specific price range. I’ve also seen artwork for sale at Mason’s Place Coffee in Moses Lake. The great thing about gifting artwork is that you’re also helping support local artists!
4. Wine Club membership:
Shopping for a wine lover? Why not sign them up for a wine club! Sure, there are plenty of options for online wine of the month clubs, but we’re fortunate to live in a great wine growing region. Camas Cove Cellars for example, is right in our backyards. They have a great selection of both reds and whites. I’m a fan of their Thelma and Louise white blend myself, it’s a must try. With their wine club membership you get wine selections (at 15% discount per bottle!) in the Spring, Fall and right before the holiday season. You also get perks such as access to member only VIP events and discounts at the winery gift shop. You can get more details on their website.
5. Theater tickets:
Soap Lake may be just a small town to some, but don’t count them out as not having anything going on. Soap Lake attracts hundreds of people each year with their productions at the Masquers Theater. The theater is designed so there is truly no bad seat in the house. They also serve wine and spirits which makes them a winner in my book. Each production is fueled by volunteers- from the actors to those behind the scenes. And man are they talented! Tickets are very affordable and make for a great date night, especially when paired with dinner or drinks after. The next play up is the comedy Noises Off. The show opens February 17 and runs through March. Check out the poster for more info!
